Weight Loss: The Power of Momentum

The power of momentum

I cannot overemphasize the power of momentum when it comes to weight loss. Recently I spoke with a gentleman who I have worked with in the past. I asked him about his health and how things were going in his life.

He proceeded to give me an update and let me know he hit a rough patch in his life and gained a significant amount of weight back since our time together.

He then informed me he has decided to try Weight Watchers out and has lost 5 pounds in the last two weeks. I congratulated him and told him to keep up the good work.

He proceeded to thank me and the next question out of his mouth was “what are your thoughts on intermittent fasting?”

I informed him that it isn’t for everyone but that I follow a modified version of this and I’m in the greatest shape of my life at almost 40 years of age.

We finished our conversation and I wished him the best. But then something dawned on me and I see this far too often.

This man is seeing real results following a structured system and is already searching for other answers. He doesn’t realize the power or momentum when it comes to weight loss.

We live in a world of immediate gratification and as most of you know results don’t happen overnight. It’s sad but if I had to guess he will not follow Weight Watchers for long and will be trying something new.

The point of me telling you all of this is to re-emphasize the fact that improving your health is all about building momentum. Once you build momentum and start to see results you gain confidence.

A confident person is generally unstoppable. But you won’t gain confidence without a little momentum.

If you stick to a solid plan long enough you will absolutely get solid results. But most people want something that doesn’t exist. Overnight results.

So I urge you to stay focused on your long term goals but take credit for your small victories. Losing 5 pounds in 2 weeks is outstanding and it’s exactly what you need to gain momentum.

But without consistency you’re only setting yourself up for a much more difficult path. Keep your head up. Gain confidence. And win!!!
